Oconto Falls High School Trades Day
May 2 @ 8:30 am - 1:45 pm
The Oconto Falls High School Technology Education Department is hosting the 3rd annual "Trades Day - Skilled Hands in High Demand" event on May 2nd, 2024. The event will allow students to experience hands-on activities in the areas of masonry, electrical wiring, welding, soldering, sheet metal, pipe threading, HVAC installation, construction, and other skilled trades. Students will be working with companies and unions to practice techniques and/or create projects. Students will bring their PPE (i.e., safety glasses, closed-toed shoes, proper clothing, etc.), along with resumes.
OFHS Tech Ed students will be participating and the SkillsUSA students will assist in setting up and tearing down the areas. We have invited 14 high schools to bring 25 students each. (Oconto, Lena, Coleman, Crivitz, Peshtigo, Marinette, Gillett, Shawano, Bonduel, Green Bay West, Green Bay Preble, Neenah, Suring, and Pulaski). These are students interested in the Trades and employment opportunities. This event, similar to last year, is designed to have students meet with companies and try out the skills they are looking for. Due to the limited space within the shops, we have selected a few companies to "demonstrate" the skills needed for a specific trade and provide an opportunity for the students to perform the tasks. The other companies will be available to meet with students to discuss career options and positions that are currently open (e.g., job-shadowing experience, youth apprenticeship, summer job, or a career). Each company will be provided a 3' x 5' table in our hallways or shops to display their information and meet with students.
The event starts at 8:30am and ends at 1:45pm. Lunch and a hospitality room will be provided. We are encouraging students to experience as many hands-on skills as possible within that time frame and meet all employers to discuss future opportunities.
Please RSVP by Friday, April 5th if you would like to participate in this event.
